Divinyls to play first show since Chrissy Amphlett’s passing
For the first time since the passing of the legendary Chrissy Amphlett, some of her old bandmates in Divinyls are reforming to play a live show in Perth next month.
The band will play a 30-minute set of classics as a part of the closing night of this year’s Perth Fashion Show. There are no other dates scheduled at this time.
They’ve enlisted some pretty incredible talent to pay tribute to Amphlett, with The Preatures’ Isabella Manfredi stepping in to do what she can to fill these monstrous shoes.
As for the band line up, fellow primary member Mark McEntee will perform guitar and vocals, while Richard Harvey will play drums and Rick Grossman will be on bass, both artists joining up with his old bandmates for the first time in over 30 years.
We spoke to Manfredi about Divinyls for our J Files feature back in 2014 and her adoration for the band and for Chrissy ought to give fans confidence that she’ll take the job seriously.
"The fact is, no one comes close to Chrissy,” she told us at the time. “No one ever did.
“Chrissy just kinda seared right through to you and grabbed you by the neck and you had to listen to her."
Speaking about filling in for Chrissy at this show, Manfredi said she is determined to do her justice.
“We would’ve moved heaven and earth to do this show,” she said in a statement today. “My job is to do Chrissy proud here, but also honour the life of the songs and the original lineup. It’s a moment in time.”
Fellow Preatures member Jack Moffitt will also be there to round out the line up.
Divinyls, featuring Jack Moffitt and Isabella Manfredi of The Preatures, play Perth’s Crown Pyramid on Sunday 17 September
