The Clouds are Double J’s Artist In Residence for July

Primary tabs

The Clouds bring their passion and knowledge to your Sunday afternoons.

One band who got a whole lot of love throughout our celebration of the 90s is Sydney indie outfit The Clouds, featuring in three of our four weekly countdowns.

It’s not exactly a surprise. They were a favourite band of so many Australians throughout the decade, thanks to brilliant records and live performances that resonated with so many.

Much as we loved grunge, their brand of indie rock was a breath of fresh air among the brashness of that prevalent genre and they served as some of our most intelligent and engaging songwriters and performers.

The Clouds reformed several years back, but are more active than ever right now with some great new music and the occasional tour reacquainting us with just how good they were, and still are.

So, we felt it was time to get the band’s two vocalists, Jodi Phillis and Trish Young, into the Double J studio for a month of programming as our Artist In Residence for July.

They kick off with a show all about harmony, which makes a whole lot of sense to anyone who has ever heard a Clouds record. Phillis and Young will share how harmony can make a song – and a band – rise beyond the sum of its parts.

Further episodes throughout the series will showcase tricky time signatures, mammoth choruses and some of the best love songs in history.

Hear Trish Young and Jodi Phillis from Clouds as Double J’s Artist In Residence each Sunday from 3pm, Wednesday night from 10pm, or anytime online.
