Troy Cassar-Daley, A.B. Original & Dan Sultan win big at 2017 NIMAs

A.B. Original’s ‘January 26’, featuring Dan Sultan, is the Song of the Year according to voters in the 2017 National Indigenous Music Awards, which took place in Darwin tonight.

 

The song, taken from A.B. Original’s acclaimed Reclaim Australia album of 2016, also took out the award for Film Clip of the Year, but the hip hop group were unable to stop country titan Troy Cassar-Daley when it came to the other big awards.

Cassar-Daley took out Album of the Year, for his album Things I Carry Around, and the coveted Artist of the Year award.

The New Talent of the Year award went to exciting South Australian electro duo Electric Fields, whose bring together the traditional language of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara people with cutting edge electro-pop.

The Halls Creek Indigenous Hip Hop Project won the Community Music Lip Of The Year for their ‘Save the Water (Ngaba)’ piece. Watch it below:

 

The ceremony featured a slew of incredible live performances from the likes of Emily Wurramara, Apakatjah, Gawurra and award winners A.B. Original (featuring Dan Sultan and Paul Kelly) and Electric Fields.
