Bloc Party to play Silent Alarm in full on 2018 Australian tour
Bloc Party’s Silent Alarm is one of those era-defining albums. Upon its release in 2005, it helped set the tone for what was going to happen in indie rock in the ensuing years.
It was earnest and emotional, but so frenetically paced that it gave you a rush of energy every time you hit play. Anyone who has revisited the album recently will have been pleased to find out the effect remains the same 13 years on.
It soundtracked innumerable indie club nights and helped heal more than a few broken hearts. It was an album so many bands tried to copy, but it will always stand head and shoulders above the many imitations.
So, it’s beyond exciting to hear that Bloc Party are going to perform the album in its entirety when they return to Australia later this year.
The band recently announced they would be doing these shows in Europe this October, making their huge Aussie fanbase seriously envious. But we should have known they wouldn’t leave us out of their plans.
The band haven’t been in Australia since their slot at the Falls Festival (and dates around the country) at the start of 2016, just weeks before the release of their latest record Hymns, so it’ll be interesting to see if they slip any of the newer material into their set as well.
Bloc Party return to Australia later this year, playing Silent Alarm in full, at the following shows. Tickets are on sale from 10am Monday 2 July.
