Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile announce album, share first single
We’ve known that Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile were cooking up some kind of collaboration for quite some time. They were never exactly shy about it.
They announced a run of tour dates in the US through October and November. Then they promised that we’d get some exciting news towards the end of August.
Now they’ve confirmed that they have a full album by the name of Lotta Sea Lice set for release on Friday 13 October.
Barnett has described the record as “an album of new songs, old songs and in-between songs”. It features her version of Kurt Vile’s ‘Peepin Tomboy’, Kurt’s version of Courtney’s ‘Outta The Woodwork’ and songs by Jen Cloher and Belly.
The first single from the record is the breezy ‘Over Everything’. You can hear it below and read triple j's thoughts on the track over here.
They’ve roped in some special guests to help them on the record, including Mick Turner and Jim White of the Dirty Three, former Bad Seed Mick Harvey, Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, Jess Ribeiro, Jade Imagine and more.
Here’s hoping Australian tour dates aren’t too far away so we can capture the combined brilliance of these two brilliant songwriters in a live setting.
