Hear Chris Cornell and his daughter sing ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’
This past weekend saw families in a number of countries around the world celebrate Father’s Day. The day can be pretty tough for those who have lost their dads, especially when they’ve passed away recently, and that includes the family of legendary rocker Chris Cornell.
Toni Cornell, who is just 13 years old, has used the day as an opportunity to honour her father, sharing a duet the two recorded before his passing last year.
In a message to her departed father accompanying the clip, she credits the Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman with giving her courage, something she’s shown a lot of since his passing.
“I love you and miss you so much,” she wrote. “You were the best father anyone could ask for. Our relationship was so special, and you were always there for me. You gave me courage when I didn’t have any. You believed in me when I didn’t.
“I miss your love everyday. Recording this song with you was a special and amazing experience I wish I could repeat 100 times over and I know you would too. Happy Father’s Day daddy, nothing compares to you.”
Toni Cornell appeared on US television just months after her father’s passing, singing a version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ in tribute to her dad, as well as his friend, Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington, who also passed away last year.
