Surprise, surprise: it doesn't sound like Silverchair or The Sleepy Jackson...

Daniel Johns and Luke Steele have been teasing a new project for a while now, and the mysterious reveal of what they’ve been cooking up became particularly interesting last week.

Internet sleuths revealed that the projects name was Dreams, and that their first announced show would be at Coachella in a few months’ time.

The duo have now posted a 50 second snippet of their first track on social media, along with the hashtag #NoOneDefeatsUs, which we’re guessing will be the name of their first single.

Hear it below:

While we know it’s hard to judge a project on a mere 50 seconds of music, we’re intrigued by this first offering. Its high-energy electro is obviously as far removed from these gents’ earliest bands – Silverchair and The Sleepy Jackson – as you can get.

It also bears no resemblance to Daniel Johns’ smooth and slinky solo record of 2015, Talk. Going on this early snippet, we’re guessing it’s going to be most akin to a grittier, looser take on Empire Of The Sun’s electro pop. But we’ll reserve any further judgment until we've heard more.

What is your first impression of Dreams?
