Jon Toogood is Double J Artist In Residence for July
One of New Zealand’s most formidable musical figures, the great Jon Toogood, steps off the stage and into the studio to bring us five big shows as Double J’s Artist In Residence this July.
Toogood is best known as the frontman of monumental alt-rockers Shihad, who remain one of the most beloved acts across the ditch.
He’s also a radio presenter, mentor, theatre performer and voiceover artist, as well as an inventive, inquisitive musician who is eager to explore exciting new sounds.
His most recent work comes from another group he’s led for years, The Adults, a project that sees him team up with a vast array of different artists to come up with some pretty great musical collaborations.
As well as being an incredibly strong vocalist and amazing live performer, Toogood really knows his music. So, it’s a pleasure to have him take the reins as Artist In Residence through July.
Toogood will use his shows to explore how colour can influence music. And he’s starting with a pretty big one. The darkest and most mysterious colour of all. Black.
Expect tracks from Joy Division, Aphex Twin, Kate Bush, Tricky, Kanye West, Black Sabbath and The Cure in week one, and a thrilling musical journey throughout the entire month.
Join Jon Toogood, Double J’s Artist In Residence, Sundays from 3pm (replayed 10pm Wednesday) or listen online whenever you damn well please.
