Katalyst is Double J Artist In Residence this May
Sunday afternoon is an opportune time to listen to really great music. The bulk of weekend has passed, you’re starting to think about the working week that lies ahead. You’re not ready to fall in a heap, but you need something nourishing to enrich your soul.
For the next four weeks, that’s where Katalyst comes in.
The acclaimed DJ and producer is taking over the Double J airwaves each Sunday afternoon from 3pm, bringing his formidable record collection into the studio and sharing some great gems you need to hear from across all genres, decades and cultures.
His first show is called Fight The Power and will see him drop the needle on tracks that he finds particularly inspiring, tracks that get a message across that may have been hard to communicate without the help of music.
Katalyst has long been one of the country’s most revered producers. Since the 90s he’s had his hand in so many brilliant records for labels like Stones Throw, Café Del Mar, Dope on Plastic and his own label Invada Records.
He’s made a few great solo albums, the acclaimed Quakers collaboration and produced record for some hip hop heavy-hitters like Guilty Simpson.
A couple of weeks ago, Katalyst and Steve Spacek released Wild World, their long-awaited second album as Space Invadas. It’s one of the records of the year so far, showing just how strong a handle Katalyst has on the soul genre and just how fresh he can make it sound.
