In a post-Nirvana world, they were the perfect band to keep us excited about rock’n’roll. They were young, passionate and they wrote really, really good songs.
But that’s not the best part of the Silverchair story. What made them a truly amazing band was all of the incredible records that followed, right up until their final effort, 2007’s Young Modern. They weren’t afraid to change their sound and their fans were largely happy to come with them.
Their storied career disproved the theories of any early naysayers and they did it while having to grow up in plain view of the rest of the world. And when it stopped being fun, they called it a day, while still at the top of their game.
